Christmas Present Ideas For The Hard Of Hearing

The UK has over 9 million hard of hearing, with the vast majority thought to have age related hearing loss. Age related hearing loss is an irreversible condition which can be managed using a number of assistive listening devices. These devices allow the hard of hearing to retain the same quality of life by overcoming their impairment using modern technology. Some devices make wonderful Christmas present because they are affordable, thoughtful and highly usable for the recipient. Here are a few suggestions.

TV Hearing Aids / Wireless TV Listeners – For the hard of hearing simply increasing the volume may not be so possible. There might be other household members whose hearing is normal and you always have to take into account your next door neighbours. TV hearing aids allow the hard of hearing to listen to the TV set at their preferred volume, while the rest of the household hear the TV via its normal speakers at their preferred volume. Wireless TV listeners are very easy to use, simply plug in and you are ready.

Loud Alarm Clocks – These are useful for the hard of hearing or if you have a teenager leaving at home ;) . They make fantastic Christmas presents because of their affordability and because they are so easy to use. Most loud alarm clocks will also display other sensory triggers such as flashing lights or vibration pads so they are useful for many categories of hearing loss.

Amplified Phones – These are the Christmas number one best seller for the hard of hearing. They consist of hard of hearing mobile phones and hard of hearing land line phones. The device looks identical to standard devices however they differ due to their amplification. Amplified phones feature very loud ringer and adjustable volume speaker. Land line phones come in corded or cordless design and mobile devices suit most networks using the recipient sim card.

Have a lovey 2011 Christmas.
