Raising awareness of Men’s health this Movember
During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces in the UK and around the World. The aim is to raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and testicular cancer.
From its humble beginnings in Melbourne, Australia Movember has grown into a global phenomenon inspiring more than 1.9 million Mo Bros and Mo Sistas to participate in formal campaigns to help change the established habits and attitudes men have about their health.
Mo Bros effectively become walking, talking billboards throughout the month of November and through their participation they raise awareness by prompting private and public conversations around the often ignored issue of men’s health.
During 2011 Movember raised £79.3 million globally and was raised by 854,288 Mo Bros and Mo Sistas. The funds raised in the UK in 2011 were £22m and are directed to programmes run directly by Movember and their men’s health partners – Prostate Cancer UK and the Institute of Cancer Research.
