Can your business afford to lose £12,000 or more a year? @Experience_Work

For most of course the answer will be no, but still the majority of businesses do lose £12,000 or more each year without even realising it.

How is this possible?

Well, in these recession burdened times any missed opportunity for saving money is a serious loss for any business. That £12,000 is the average of how much your business could save if you employ someone in an unpaid work experience role or internship.  It is not just the savings seen as a result of not paying a salary, but the extra work that your business gets through someone able to make sales calls, produce more products or services or even train your staff. Indeed of course, you’ll save even more if you take on multiple work experience ‘employees’. How much the saving could be for your business is only limited to your ability to manage the labour you’ll have the benefit of.

‘I don’t need anyone to make a tea or do the photocopying…’

Well a work experience placement is not necessarily about taking on someone to just carry out menial, low skilled and/or repetitive tasks, it can be about bringing both much needed skills and much needed enthusiasm into a workplace. A work experience placement should offer the candidate an opportunity to experience real work; to act the same as a paid employee, to really contribute to the business’s day to day operation. Many people looking for work experience are degree level educated (or above) and are smart and very capable, but they are simply lacking the now essential experience of having had real work. Indeed, the more demanding a business is on the employee potentially the more useful experience they’ll get. This is of course exactly what most are looking for. They don’t want to make tea or photocopies as much as you probably don’t need them to do this.

What should I do?

It is very simple, just give it a try and list your vacancy on Experience Works .
