Get featured in your local paper @Getinthepress

So you’ve got a great business idea but how do you get your business featured in your local paper?

Wouldn’t you love to know how it’s done?

Well here are some tips to help you get featured in your local paper:

Remember that the press need you – they  like to hear from their communuty and they rely on people to send them relevant information.

Make it Newsworthy – have you won an award, secured a big contract, moved into a new premises?   Do you have stats or figures you can quote to link to your press release?

Have a good image – every picture sells a story so it pays to have a good photo to send in.

Are you organising an event?  Consider running a workshop or networking event for the local community.  Invite your local reporter along and they may well take a photo of the event to cover in a future issue.

Find out when your local paper goes to print – normally the day before it’s published.  Avoid calling the editorial team in the two days before this day. They will be manic!   Unless your news is particularly urgent and timely, stick to the other days of the week.

Write a press release and send it your local paper -  make sure you keep the release to one A4 page, and keep the copy concise and relevant.  Ensure all your contact details are easy to find.

With this knowledge in hand, you can be confident in approaching the press and ensuring that your business can Get In The Press.
