How to Get More Traffic to Your Site to Convert Into Sales

Getting traffic is one thing, but converting it into sales is another. It’s all very well having 10000 visitors a day, but if only one of them buys from you all you’re doing is wasting bandwidth. So if you’re going to the trouble of getting traffic you may as well concentrate on getting targeted traffic. Here are three great ways to get targeted traffic to your website.

1. Pay Per Click. PPC is currently the quickest way to get targeted traffic to your website. Don’t just jump in with both feet though or you’ll end up drownng. Getting into a bidding war with your competitors is not the way to go. When you’re first starting out, try to find keywords that have less competition and start by bidding low.

Always workout how much you can afford to spend per sale on marketing. If its £5 per item and it takes you 10 clicks before you make a sale, then you can afford to spend 0.50 per click. That should be your maximum bid.

Work on your conversion rate, by carefully choosing keywords. Soon you’ll be able to get a sale every 8 clicks, then you can use the money you’ve saved to either increase your maximum bid, or you could have a nice holiday in the Caribbean.

Don’t think that your competitors will always be ahead of you by bidding 0.51 per click, because the beauty of Google is the more clicks on your ad the higher up it will be, so instead of getting into a bidding war, work on getting more people to click on your advert, its not unheard of for people to be paying 0.50 for the top position and second position paying £1 per click.

2. Co-Marketing. Why waste your time trying to find your own traffic when there’s a huge source of targeted traffic waiting for you already. Look around the web and find a company that offers similar or complimentary products to yours.

For example if your selling garden hoses try to find a company that sells other garden equipment. This way you can utilise their mailing list to sell your products and they can use your mailing list to sell theirs.

You can always offer commission to your co-marketer for every item sold, to help sweeten the deal.

Just imagine if you can find a company that has 20,000 loyal subscribers and they recommend your company to them.

3. Leverage the traffic you already have. Do you have a mailing list, if not, why not. For every sale you make you should be collecting an email address. These people are already your customers so they’re twice as likely to but from you again.

Put together an email campaign or newsletter and send it out regularly to your customers. You’ll be amazed how profitable this can be.

But don’t stop at existing customers; try to get new customers to sign up for your newsletter as well. A great way to do this is to offer a free gift for every sign-up. It doesn’t have to be expensive, just a simple eBook offering free advice will do. You should be aiming to get at least 10% of your visitors to sign-up to your newsletter.
