So What is PR, exactly? @GetinthePress

So What is PR, exactly?

Imagine having your product featured in magazines. Do you get frustrated seeing your competitors in magazines or newspapers? Why can‘t your product be there??

Well you can do it, and it wont cost you half as much as the huge advertising budgets big companies have.

PR is all about informing journalists about your product/business in the hope that they then feature your business in an article.

Perhaps your product will be reviewed, or your opinions will be asked for in a feature.

My golden rule with PR is to remember the press need you.

Journalists need people like you and I to provide them with news, statistics, trends, new products or events.   Here’s some tips to help you:

You need to identify your target media list.

Draw up some PR angles that are newsorthy and attract the journalist’s attention.

Write and distribute your press releases on a regular basis, so you stay in touch with journalists.

Read a newspaper/magazine that you would love to be featured in, and get to know it’s style.  Note down the journalist’s contact details.  Give them a ring and tell them about your business.

And maintain this – keep it going throughout the year.  And above all – enjoy it!
