Strider Balance Bike Championships are here

Hundreds of pint sized riders between 18 months and 5 years-old took up racing in 2012, and now thousands more have the opportunity to ride in the first ever STRIDER British Balance Bike Championship series for toddlers later this year.

Strider™, the world leader in balance bike technology, has worked with world class BMX and cycling venues across the UK to create the first British championship series for no-pedal balance bike riders.

The 2013 Strider British Balance Bike Championships will have five major qualifying events that will commence in London on Sunday May 5th at the Merton BMX track. The championships will then visit Gosport (June 16th), Gravesend (July 21st), Birmingham (August 21st) and finish in Manchester at the home of British Cycling (September 22nd).

At each qualifying event, finalists will win the chance to enter the invitation-only finals, also held in Manchester in September, to ride for the chance to be crowned the British Champion and represent Great Britain at the Strider World Championships in Florida later in the year.

Alison Oliver, Managing Director of the Youth Sport Trust, who is in support of the Strider British Balance Bike Championships said: “The Youth Sport Trust believes passionately that sport changes lives and we work tirelessly to encourage greater opportunities for young people to take part in PE and school sport. We believe that young people should be introduced to an active lifestyle from a young age which is why it is encouraging to see the work of the Strider British Balance Bike Championships.”

The series of events created by Strider are part of a wider campaign to encourage tens-of-thousands of toddlers to take to two wheels with training centres and adventure zone play areas also planned throughout the year.

Balance bikes are proven to improve balance and coordination which means that even our youngest riders can have a go. The Strider events are open to anyone, no matter their ability, with opportunities to train and ride at organised coaching sessions before the big day. They are designed to be exciting, yet safe, environments for children to explore and play on two wheels, with the added excitement of racing.”

With registration now open for each of the championship events, we would encourage interested parents to book a place to avoid disappointment asap.
