The Kilner Jar packaging is a great idea (especially for savoury biscuits) and when this is picked up by the big stores we predict Rachel’s business will certainly take off.” Mark and Ian of Star 107.

Rachel started her unique biscuit business after seeing an untapped niche in the market. Following on from her children’s love of gingerbread men and her passion for food along with never being able to find that perfect unique gift for friends and family, The Biscuit Jar was born.  After receiving some Lego men cookie cutters and her boys wanting them iced, Rachel realised that there was nothing on the high street outside of London like this and following on from purchasing Alphabet cutters, Rachel started creating personalised messages in Kilner jars as Thank You and birthday presents.

Rachel is passionate about her business and frequently trialling new biscuit recipes and designs on her family and friends for feedback. Every single detail down to the raffia on the packaging is carefully brought together to give a bespoke feel and finish to the products. With using professional design and photography services to create a long term future of her business along with securing The Biscuit Jar Trademark in July.

On winning the Best Craft Business Award, Rachel said, “Truly delighted! To have such a fantastic independent endorsement of The Biscuit Jar within our first year is more than I ever could have dreamed of. A huge thank you to all our customers, fellow small businesses and my family who’ve helped us on our journey…this is for you!

In the 9 months since Rachel launched the business she has shipped biscuits all over the UK and to the United States, secured a radio interview with Three Counties Radio and generated interest in the product from Fortnum and Masons in London.  All this has been achieved whilst she and her husband have sold their home and relocated their family to Essex.

The Biscuit Jar creates both sweet and savoury biscuits, along with seasonal designed lollipops which are available exclusively at The Sweet Shop in Saffron Walden. There are two new additions to the product range, Biscuit House kits, ideal for school holidays and Biscotti, great for coffee with friends.
